Audio Systems: Stereo amp, step down transformers, ford f350

Question
Ford f350 stock stereo(not premium).  looking to install amp. have been told by modern installers not possible. back in the day of equalizers('70's and early '80's) we used to cut wires, have input from stereo speaker leads and output to speakers, ect. Is this installation possible with modern radios or are we now too integrated.

Answer
Sorry to say, but probably not.

I'll check - the one possible back door might be if you had the option of an outboard CD changer and the signals were anolog (not likely after about 1998).  What year is your truck?

Also you might try asking Garry - I find he has more experience behind the dashboard with junked cars and always seems to be quick with a useful "jury-rig".

***FOLLOW-UP:
It only just occured to me that you're looking to add a device "downstream" to the stock stereo and not add an input.  If that is the case then you can allways "pick-off" a low-level analog audio signal from the speaker outputs of your stereo for use with whatever array of audio devices you choose.  YOu can either wire in your own step-down transformers or use a pre-manufactured product, such as this:

-the audio quality may not be as great as starting from scratch with a pre-output, but likely better than sticking with the integrated unit's amp.
