Audio Systems: Replaceing 2002 Ford Escape factory in dash cd changer, auto cd players, crutchfield

Question
I am looking to replace my 2002 Ford Escape's factory 6 cd in dash changer.  I am having teh stand problems with it eating cds and not pitting them back out. last week one that was stuck for a year came out with a hugr chunk taken out and the cd was split in half.
I am not getting anywhere with anyone being able to tell any suggestions to replace the stereo with.  I was wondering if you could help me.  I looked at some Kenwood double dins for it but I am starting to question if it will truely fit since some dip**** at crutchfield is telling me that only single dins will fit in my car.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  It DOES have a 4" face on it (even though crutchfield is telling me there's no way) I was about to order the stereo from them and they said it wouldn't fit my car. So I am trying to find out what other people have put in Ford Escapes.

Answer
Hi Crystal,

You probably already have a new player at this point, but just in case, my advice is to take it to a place that sells new auto CD players, pick out one you like, and they'll install it for free.  I'm an expert at this stuff and frankly, I haven't bothered to replace a car radio or CD player in years - I just go to a local shop that price matches anything I can find on the Web, and they install it.  Some times it's better to just pay an expert than try to D.I.Y.  Hope it's all worked out and good luck!  Cheers, Wink
