QuestionMy cd palyer keeps giving "cd error" message. Is there any way to clean lens without taking it out of the dash? If not, can you tell me HOW to get it out to clean the lens/laser?

AnswerUsually, you can reach in with a long cotton q-tip. Just flick the lense a few time to brush off the microscopic particles that may be stuck to the surface.
But, I think you will find the laser diode has failed; this is very common and is to be expected for a vehicle over a few years of age.
Unfortunately, the cost of repair is about the same or more than the cost of replacing the whole head unit.
If you have an iPod or mp3 player you can purchase a conversion kit that will allow you to play the portable through the car system. Maybe that is a good alternative for you.
