Audio Systems: 1997 Honda Wiring?, rubber grommets, plastic connector

Question
Hey there.

I recently bought a used 1997 Honda Civic Sedan, and noticed that the drivers side front speaker was not working. My first thought was to change it out, and upgrade my system while I was at it. I picked up some 6.5's for the front, and 6x9's for the back, and installed all 4.

This did not fix the problem, and it was at this time, that I noticed that not only did that speaker not work, but the power locks did not work either. I inspected this further and noticed that the lines from the car to the door were not attached, and a closer look showed that there was nowhere to plug the plastic wiring clip from my car into the door.

After removing the door panel, I could see that while there were several metal prongs in the place where the female plastic connector would be. I came to the conclusion that the previous owner had replaced the drivers side door.

My question is this: While there are only two wires connected to the male end plastic connector, considering the fact that the passenger door also has only two wires, I would assume that these are indeed the speaker wires. Where would I look at checking out a replacement female plastic connector for my door? What is the proper name for this item? Can I surpass this and simply run some longer wires through my door and into my speaker?

Answer
If you go to a Honda dealer they can supply you with connectors for the door mounted speaker, etc. but it will cost an arm and a leg.

Your last suggestion is the correct and most practical approach; just run some wires that you purchase from Walmart or a hardware store from the speaker, through the door to the amplifier connector or wiring off the back of the radio unit.  You should make sure the wires are dressed so they don't get pinched and eventually shorted out to the metal parts of the car.  You can find rubber grommets at Home Depot or Lowes that can be put in the hole to keep out dirt and moisture.

The power lock wiring can be handled in the same way.

You can get an idea of the wiring chart for the Honda at:

which might be of help to you in tracing out the speaker wiring that should connect to the driver side door mounted speaker.

Hope this gets you fixed up but let me know if you need more.
