Audio Systems: CD Changer, small screws, mazda tribute

Question
I havde a 6 Cd changer in a Mazda Tribute 2001. I loaded a CD in the player and now I get an ERROR, and I can;t load or unload or play. What can I do? How do I take it out?

Answer
Hi there Cecil,

Unfortunately the make and model of car is irrelevant but the make and model of the changer is and you haven’t given me it, however.

If the CD is jammed in the transporter within the changer and you cannot remove the magazine you must take the case off of the changer, even if you can get the magazine out I would still recommend the following as less damage would be likely..

Unplug the cables

Undo the screws holding the changer to the mounting.

Remove the half a dozen or so small screws holding the cover to the base.

Remove the cover taking care and making note of any springs that might be used to suspend the innards in the chassis..

You will now be able to see the innards of the changer, without knowing the make and model I will write in general terms for a generic changer.

The magazine would be to the side (left or right depending on model) and there will be a transporter mechanism next to it which moves up and down to the selected CD in the magazine and slides in and out the selected CD and usually at the bottom is the reader/player which spins the CD.

The usual problem is a jammed CD in the reader or transporter, observe how the transporter operates, usually a screw devise up the rear, and gently try to free it and reverse the jam.
Once the CD is out check for any bent or broken parts where the CD was or it will happen again.

Hope that helps.

Once you have had a go let me know on the feedback so I know if it helped.
