Audio Systems: Pioneer CD player volume, pioneer cd player, new volume control

Question
My Pioneer CD player DEH-P20 has started to raise the volume automatically to maximum level whenever it is turned on. You can lower the volume but it goes right back up again! I can't even try changing the programming because it is so loud. Any way to troubleshoot or am I out of luck?

Answer
Try a hard reset.  It may help to restore the functionality (if it is software related). You must disconnect the positive cable from the car battery for 20 minutes; then connect again.

That will reset everything in the car (such as the clock) as well as the cd player.

The unit is quite old; Pioneer no longer supports it in their web page for older models.

So, if the hard reset does not help it I suggest you think about replacing it wiht a newer model since the repair for something like this is more costly than it is worth.

OR; contend with the odd volume control setting and just be quick on the draw to bring it down.  If it won't stay down. you could ask a technician friend to hardwire a new volume control circuit in it; but if you took it to a repair shop for that it would cost over $150.

Let me know if you have other thoughts.
