Audio Systems: honda cassette player and aftermarket stereo deck, rca inputs, radio unit

Question
hi, im dont really know much about cars or their stereos, but i have a 96 honda civic with the original stereo. this is only the radio and the cassette player down by the cup holders. i was curious, is there any way that i would be able to connect the honda cassette player(seperate than the radio) to the new aftermarket one i buy. maybe thro an aux input in the back or RCA inputs or something. i just dont want it sitting their taking up space and not being able to do anything.

thanx, curtis

Answer
Yes, there is always the ability to do that even though you may have to purchase a head unit that has the right features.

You must find a unit with audio inputs either on the back or front.

Many of the new ones have an input to feed in an iPod or mp3 player; this same input can be used for the audio outputs from your cassette player.

I like crutchfield.com for sorting these things out; they have the best and most comprehensive details on the new receivers.  When you buy from them (and you don't have to do so) they give you harneses and instructions on getting it into your new car.

For example, this cd/radio unit is under $100; has audio inputs and will fit your honda sedan:

Hope this helps.
