Question -
my girl got her dad to install his old system for her,...but now the radio doesnt even power on. at first it kept turning off and on when the music was loud but i guess since i saw her today,..she told me that the radio wont work at all. i think that it might be the remote wire,...but i might be wrong. So try and help out please.

Answer -
You did not give me a car make, model and year or make and model of the radio unit.

Go to www.installdr.com and see if the vehicle is listed in those data.  If so, follow the wiring diagram pictures and check it out carefully and thoroughly.

Chances are it is wired wrong for the car; a special wiring harness is almost always needed when moving a radio unit from owe car to another.

A wiring short can cause serious damage to the radio unit.

Hope this helps, and let me know your next move so I can help.

Answer
These series of pictures will give you an overview of the installation procedures, wiring harness and hookup check out for the Honda Civic, 1998.

You must check all the wiring carefully. Since it was coming on then going off that is a good sign some wires are wrong and placing a short condition on one of the lines.  It is not good news.

To check the system out rigorously you must bench test the unit and then get a VOM and check all the voltages at the head unit and verify the wires with continuity checks; placing tape on each wire with the name of the speaker location so you can get it RIGHT.

Bench test is to bring the unit out of the car; run some long wires from the battery to the unit; hook up a stand alone speaker to one of the amplifier outputs and test the unit.  If it is good outside the car, then you know you have to solve some problems inside the car.

Good Luck,
