Audio Systems: Aftermarket radio, eclipse spyder, infinity system

Question
My husband installed an aftermarket radio in my car with an amp and speaker box. Everything was working but overnight the battery drained. Then he found a door speaker that was wired but not connected to the new setup with the aftermarket radio and amp so he taped that off so it would not have power going to it. The next morning again my battery was drained. He has no clue now what is causing my battery to drain. A mechanic friend told us it could be the factory amp that is shorting out my car causing to drain battery. He now wants to disconnect the factory amp and see if that is the problem. Please advise what you suggest otherwise he is just going to disconnect everything aftermarket and put it back to the way it was. My car is a 2001 Mits Eclipse Spyder and also can you tell me where the factory amp is located in my car? Thank you, Marie Alicea

Answer
If that has the Infinity system, the amp will be under the front right seat. If he has bypassed it entirely, just unplug the connector(s) to that amp and it should never draw energy off of the battery again.
*Make sure the aftermarket gear is wired correctly.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,
J. Mael
