Audio Systems: CD player is non-responsive, radio units, button work

Question
I went through a couple of the past answers but found none pertaining to my issue.  I bought a Kingwood tape/cd car stereo for my 96' eclipse.  All of the wiring is properly installed and each has the correct voltage.
The radio and the tape player work properly but the cd player never has.  It does not respond when a cd in inserted (no CD mode is applicable nor does the play button work) and the only way to get the cd in is to press eject and wait till it lets me use the sliders in reverse.

My clock never keeps current either, yet it never zeroes out.

Do I have to replace the whole thing?

Answer
If you just purchased it, take it back to the seller and let them exchange it for a new/replacement.

If it is not in warranty you may be better off just replacing it anyway.

If you are certain you have it wired correctly and you have bench tested the unit and still found the cd portion defective it is clearly a defective unit internally.  The repair for things like this is virtually never worth the cost; just replace it and get along in life.

The above may be a good review of the wiring.

There are many cd/radio units that will fit your vehicle under $100; and many more over $100.

You may want to talk with a Kingwood (do you mean Kenwood?) representative and ask if there is any known problem with your model....
