Audio Systems: Sony CDX-F50M cutting off, sony cdx, factory speakers

Question
My new stereo cuts off when I turn the volume above 20.  It seems to allow me to turn it higher when I am on AM/FM vs Satellite, but it will probably only go to about 22 on there and then after 30 seconds or so shut down and restart.  Any ideas? If I stay below 20 it will stay on forever...

thanks

Answer
With so little specifics about your system layout, I will have to guess.

Presuming there are no external amplifiers/processors and that the new deck is in good working order:
It is probably an impedance mis-match of the speakers to the headunit. If the speakers' impedances are too low (many factory speakers are 3 ohm  ect) it can cause overheating at the deck. This can trigger thermal protection in the headunits, ect.
It really depends on the speakers, and how they are wired as to what the load on the headunits' amps will be.

Once the speakers load is within the decks' limits, the deck should work well throughout the entire volume range.
