Audio Systems: overheating amp, audiobahn a8000t, 4 ohms

Question
ok my amp is a audiobahn A8000T 1600w class a/b,  intake series. my speakers- 2 12'' audiofonics 1200w each 600w RMS. The ground wire is on a sanded off area and is tight.  Would a capacitor help any?      ok i hope some of this info helps, thanks

Answer
Ok well you didnt give me the model of the sub but from the specs you gave me it looks like the ADF-272
The audiobahn 8000T is designed to put out 400watts at 4 ohms or 800watts at 2 ohms
You have 4 coils that are 4 ohms each so here's whats happening:
If you wired all the coils in parallel (4 coils divided by 4 ohms) will create a 1 ohm load.  your amp only runs down to a 2 ohm load.  running it a 1 ohm will make your amp overheat.
If you wire your subs's coils in series and then wire them together in parallel you will get a 4 ohm load (4+4=8 (8 ohms each sub) and 8 ohms each sub / 2 subs = 4 ohms total.
If you do this your amp wont overheat but at 4 ohms it will only put out 400 watts, so each sub will only get 200 each.  that's not that much.  I would say that this amp isnt a very good match for these subs.  If you can get another one of these amps (THE EXACT SAME ONE!) then you'll have 4 times the power (each one will run at 2 ohms givving 800 watts each so instead of 400 watts you'll get 1600!)
Good luck!  Let me know how it goes
