Audio Systems: Cant get radio to tune stations, jeep grand cherokee laredo, jeep grand cherokee

Question
Hello:

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Model 1997. I'm having the following problem with my radio: I can't tune to any radio stations. I do get some stations, but they sound distorted. I installed a new radio CD/receiver and I'm still having the same problem. I used to get radio stations before (with the original factory radio), but one day, it stopped working. I wasn't able to tune to any stations. I bought and installed the new one and the same thing. I have to listen to CDs all the time. What could be the problem?
Thanks for your time

Answer
Since you have had this same problem with more than one unit I conclude the problem is with the antenna system in the car.

You should check the antenna connection.  Check the grounding system and if the antenna is one that goes up and down when the radio is on, make sure the fuse is good.

You can check the radio unit itself by merely feeding a short piece of wire into the antenna jack in the back of the unit and see if it picks up stations. Make sure the wire has the insulation stripped off the end so that when you insert it into the antenna jack it can make contact with the center hole.

Hope this helps.
