Nissan Repair: Review of issues :), crank sensor, car leaks

Question
QUESTION: My car shakes over 55---new tires..new wheel on one---control arm and bushings are new and so is the right---ugh forgot the word....but after nissan having it for over a week they can not figure it out....

2nd-after the distributar and timing belt went and got fixed-could the mechanic (who is not nissan) have damaged the thermost?  You have get the engine out to get the belt on...empy fluids....after I got the car back the crank sensor light still comes on, he had problems with it too....now the car leaks antifreeze, the thermostat went-the belt to the housing tstat went and the crank sensor light is till on.....HELP ME PLEASE....tired of getting screwed on these things....just put out the 900 for the last repairs.  I have been back to see him for heat issues...the cars heat was awesome before the breakdown and repairs...he added antifreeze and turned the light off...what do I do

ANSWER: Kim,

A different shop would be a good choice here.  I would say on the shake to get to a tire shop and verify the tires are balanced.  On the leak I would look at the thermostat housing, hoses and the water pump.  If the crank sensor light (check engine light) is coming on have the codes read at Autozone or Checker for free and see what the codes are and email me back.  We'll go from there.  I look forward to hearing back from you.

QUESTION: Hey-thanks for the reply.
I have the tires balanced over and over...Nissan had the car for 1.5 weeks trying to figure it out, they even took off the entire tire and put on others(the shake)Even had the tires replaced(bought them about a year before it started shaking)  I have tried going to a body shop to get the CAR itself checked to see if the frame is bent and they look at me like I have three heads  :)

The light is for the crank sensor from the mechanic and the Nissan dealer...two places.  The mechanic said he replaced it but the light keeps coming on...so they should have a warranty for the part---so many days?  Replace it???  It could have been bad, right?

Starting from the beginning-After the car broke down, stopped dead while driving...the towing company said they had a mechanic...the place I usually go to had revamped their staff-I knew no one.  So i said ok-I check on it over and over-finally had a friend drive there, the mechanic did not even have a garage.  He had my car torn apart in the parking lot.  UGH.  After I get it back (6 days later)-the light goes back on....the heat is not working when I need it to...then it got hot by sitting, rpm was high also....went back to the mechanic, said you need antifreeze-he put in some....then the heat worked and it went back to normal for a few days.  Over heated this past Saturday-I mean I could not get enough antifreeze in quick enough...but when I did add it-the color of the coolant was brown...like it pulled the rust from the radiator? I take it to the mechanic who fixed the car at the new facility-now a building-no lift for the cars though.  He looks at it quick and says the radiator is cracked...I take it to Nissan, pay them for the review of the problems, and they come to me with the  crank sensor, thermostat, belt to the housing of the tstat....I just think that he didn't put it back together right...he drained the fluids to put the belt on, didn't put them all back in at the right levels, and caused the problems, the leak damaged the tstat??

It sucks being a chick when cars are involved...i always feel like im being taken advantage of...so far 955 into it since december.  I appreciate your time on this....I really do.

Answer
Kim,

If the car continues to leak I would have it checked for a bad gasket on the thermostat and the hose.  Also, look at the waterpump to make sure it is not leaking.  You should be fine if they did the work you mention.

If you are mistaking a shake for an intermittent miss that could be the distributor and that would cause the light too.  I would go to Autozone or Checker and get the code read to see what they say.  Email me with the code and we'll go from there.
