Audio Systems: 2006 GMC Bose Speakers, pioneer deh p7700mp, bose speakers

Question
I have a 2006 GMC sierra with bose factory speakers and steering wheel controls.  In my old truck (2000 Chevy Silverado) I had a Pioneer DEH-P7700MP Headunit which I want to put in my new truck, but I do not want to lose the steering wheel controls.  Is there a wiring harness that will allow me to do this?  If not, I need to know how to run a seperate amp off the stock radio for my sub.
Thanks for any help, James

Answer
You must know the model and series of the truck, cab, etc., but if you go to

www.crutchfield.com

and search your exact model with the Bose system, it will bring up the kits and wiring harnesses that you will need.

If you have OnStar you may lose that functionality until you have the dealer install another one.  There are a few other things you will need to know, but I think you will find both Crutchfield and Scoshe.com have such wiring harnesses and converters  -- - --  BUT: if it will interface with the old Pioneer headend is another matter all together. In this case I would recommend you to check out the wires one by one once you have gotten the layout of the wiring harness or converter plugs.

This is a comment from the Crutchfield page on the Sierra:
------------------
Problem: Installing an aftermarket receiver in many late model (2000-up) General Motors vehicles means losing ONSTAR system functions, the Bose amplified speaker system, audible safety warnings, and the chime that warns the door is open.

Solution: Metra's GMOS-04 GM Class II data bus interface lets you replace the factory receiver in these vehicles without losing these functions. Connect your in-dash receiver to the GMOS-04 interface's RCA input jacks. You'll get the great sound you want, and keep these important features intact. The Bose amplified speakers and the ONSTAR system will operate with your new radio, as well as the door chime and audible safety warnings.

Also, once you turn off the ignition in these GM vehicles, the factory radio continues to play until you open the door. This interface maintains that function with your new aftermarket radio. This interface is compatible with select 2000-and up GMC, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Pontiac, Isuzu, and Hummer vehicles. Warranty: 1 year.

Important Note: If you haven't done so already, please enter your vehicle information or call a Sales Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find out if your GM vehicle's warning chimes are integrated with the factory radio. If so, certain warning chimes in your vehicle may be disabled by installation of an aftermarket receiver. You must use the recommended Crutchfield integration adapter to retain the warning chimes. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or death.

Also, I saw a very similar question on one of the chevy forums the other day but I can't seem to find it now. IT gave a supplier of a company that provides conversion kits for adding aftermarket radios to the steering wheel buttons.  You may google for a while and find it.

You might also try places like:

for the goodies they make; maybe one will fit the Sierra.

Hope this helps.

PS: I really am impressed with crutchfield; you may want to call them the very first thing and see what they have. It is the most comprehensive auto radio place around.  They have people on staff that know everything there is to know about any installation you can throw at them.  And, the have tons of wiring harnesses and kits.
