Audio Systems: Toshiba 40H80, daughter board, transfer materials

Question
My set is currently 4 years old, the picture started to get various colors and started doing kind of a double image.  I understand that this might be caused the convergance board. Where would you be able to get one, and how simple is it to replace it yourself?

Answer
Convergence will need repair; you are right.

Not simple; older sets had separate board called daughter board; you purchased a new one and plugged it in.

Now days the circuitry is integrated onto one of the main boards.

Repair involves replacing two big IC chips. You must be a master at soldering and know how to remove the old ones and put in the new ones, including heat transfer materials so they will not burn out again.

The cost of having it done by a shop is always over $400.

Doing it by yourself can be about half that amount.  You can find the parts at

www.partstore.com

and other such places.

And, there may be other parts that are needed in addition to the ICs.  Look for burned resistors around the stk chips.
