Question
The Cd Player in my 2000 toyota yaris keeps skipping all of my cd's asif they were all scatched, which i know there not.Is there anything i can do or do i need to replace it? Thanks helen

Answer
Yes, you will need to replace it or have it repaired. The repair may be as costly as a new radio/player unit, however.

The almost always cause of this problem is a bad laser diode which is buried down inside the optical pickup readyer.

You might try cleaning the lense of the pickup (let me give it only a 10% chance of solving the problem or helping it read the cds, however).  Just flick over the top of the lense of the opctical pickup a few times with a cotton q-tip.  This will dislodge any microscopic particle that may have gotten lodged onto the surface.

Since the Yaris was not available in the USA in 2000 I am assuming you are in the UK or one of the European countries.  I think you can check with many sources on a replacement unit for a reasonable price.  You can use

www.crutchfield.com

as a starting point; this site will give you a listing of sets that fit the mounting configurations and such for your car.  I think you can use the Echo and the Corolla for the search as they are nearly similar in the installation as the Yaris.

Let me  know if there are more questions.

PS:  The 2007 yaris will come up on crutchfield; maybe that is the best place to look for compatible units.
