Audio Systems: new car stereo, cd mp3 player, jumper wire

Question
Hey, I have a 1996 Volkswagen Golf 4d i just bought a new kenwood cd/mp3 player and i connected it and it worked fine but then when i was seating on the back seat and i leaned on the back right door the speakers just stopped working on that door but everything else worked fine. I disconected stereo and reconected it and then i took all the door panel and speakers off and reconected it but the speakers still don't work.

Answer
either the speaker blew - not likely
or that channel in the Head unit blew - slightly likely
or the wire got shorted against the body - very likely

you can test the speaker by taking it out of the door, disconnecting the wire and put a AA battery across the speaeker's terminals (you'll probably need a small jumper wire to make it reach.  If it makes a "click" and moves slightly then the speaker is fine.  If so proceed to step 2

Test wether the wire is shorted you can disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the head unit and put one wire of a meter across 1 wire of the connector that goes to the speaeker not working and the other end of the meter against the body of the car (metal) set the meter for continutity (so it beeps when you tough the 2 wires together) and if you get a beep the wire is shorted.  If not try the meter on the other speaker wire, and see if you get a beep from the meter.
If you dont get any beeps the wires should be fine.  I would try switching the left and right speaekr wires at the head unit to see if the problem switches sides.  this would indicate that the Head has a bad amp channel.
Good luck, let me know how it goes!
