Audio Systems: car stereo 91 Lincoln Continental, antenna works, light probe

Question
Can not get output to speakers from factory, or other stereos.  Have by-passed factory amp and stereo. I have checked both speakers and stereo and they both work but can not get any output.

Have already installed by-pass wiring harness from shop.  Antenna works and can pick up channels, but no sound.

Thanks for your time, Frank

Answer
Bit confused here! You say you have tested the speakers and they are OK?
You have fitted more than one head unit and none produce sound at the speakers?
You have bypassed the amps? I assume you have taken the 8 speaker leads on the back of the head unit to speakers directly and still no sound?
Not much left to try is there?
I will run through a quick check list, it may help you find the problem, you will need a small test meter set to 20VDC or proper 12v light probe.

Check both power leads are live into the head unit, 12v live and 12v ignition.
Earth is good
When ‘on’ the head unit puts out 12v on the (usually blue or blue/white) leads for the amp signal and ariel signal.
Using a small AA or AAA torch cell disconnect the speakers at the speaker end and using a bit of wire flash the 1.5V of the battery cross the speakers, there should be a reaction which usually means the speaker is O.K. repeat at the disconnected radio end, if one works but the second doesn’t it means broken speaker leads.
With everything connected and switched on as stock, check for 12v at the amp signal. 12v at the main amp feed and ground at the earth lead.
It should all work unless you have the “phone mute” wire grounded, Dough!
