Audio Systems: 2001 Buick Monsoon tape player, monsoon system, delphi web

Question
My Monsoon system has radio, CD and tape. While I use the CD player frequently (with no problems) I came across some old tapes. Its been working fine until I tried a different one. Tape will not eject, gives Error code "11" while making a growling sound for about 20 seconds. Can I get the tape out?

Answer
Old tapes sometimes have warped cassettes and they jam in the mechanisms.

When this happens you are at the mercy of the unit.  Some units have an eject or release that pops a deformed cassette back out.  You would learn about that in the owners manual that came with the unit.

The Monsoon is manufactured by Delphi, a division of Delco (GM) and is quite good stuff. You may be able to download the manuals from the Delphi web site, although I haven't personally been on their sites for some time.

Sometimes if you very carefully go through the cassette door with a small but lengthy tool you can pry up the cassette enough to break it loose from its locked down position; but be careful not to damage any of the mechanisms or surfaces.

In the worst case, you may have to pull the unit from the dash, remove the covers and get inside where you can more carefully extract the cassette cartridge.

Also, you might get some ideas from www.fixer.com which is all about vcrs, but it has some general advice that would relate to any tape driven device.

Let me know after trying the above if you need more help.
