Nissan Repair: Nissan 350z, reset position, position button

Question
Hello, I didnt know who else to ask on here. So here it is, I have a 350z. The power window on the drivers side don't work.. When it started it went down fine then would not go up, after playing with the up on the switch it went up. I could hear something clicking in the switch the whole time. It seems to work sometimes and not others, but now its not working at all and if it dose move its very slow and one time it would try to go back down on its own when i let go of the up switch. I was thinking its not the switch or the motor.... It would be great if you could give me some idea where to look and what for... I would just start replacing parts but there not cheep.... Thanks fer the time...

Answer
Brian,

I have a 2003 350Z and had the same problem with mine.  The window motor is really a stepper motor and when they go out that is what they do.  The motor is probably defective.  Get a factory service manual to do the replair.  You can go to nissantechinfo.com and get the manual .pdf for a $20 buck access fee.  It describes the procedure to do the job.  If you want to send me an email at vonsudderth @yahoo.com I will try to find a copy for you of the part of the manual that deals with the window.  Now, there is a reset/position button on the door that lets the motor know the window's position.  Remember that this is stepper motor and it is smart.  It knows where full up is and full down and even if someone gets a hand in the window.  The last part is in reference to the window reversing direction when someone puts a hand in the way of the window.  It will sense the overload and roll back down.
