Audio Systems: Ford Taurus, ford tarus, ford taurus

Question
I'm trying to put a cd play er in my 1988 ford tarus wagon and I'm not sure how to hook up the speaker wires.  There are a blue with black tracer, white, white with red tracer, purple with white tracer, and a green wire coming out of the car.  There are a purple, purple with black tracer, gray, gray with black tracer, white, white with black tracer, green, and green with black tracer wires coming from the cd player.  How would I hook this up to the car?

Thanks for your time,
Brandon

Answer
You have a premium sound version, and this means you will either have to locate the factory amp and bypass it, or buy an aftermarket level adaptor. This page has some great info;

What your 5 wire system really is is one positive signal wire to each channel of the amp, and a common signal ground. At the amp, there will be 8 wires, just like your aftermarket CD player has. It's been too long since I've done a Taurus, I can't recall where the amp is. If you luck out, there may be the "base" stereo harness buried behind the radio, with adaptor cables to and from the factory amp (which is garbage, by the way).
