Audio Systems: Adding an EQ to a stereo sytem, phono input, rca jacks

Question
I have a stereo system that consits of an AKAI AM-2600 integrated amp, AKAI Reel to Reel, cassette, and Tuner, and a Realistic Phono. I have recently purchased a Pioneer SG-9800 EQ and Linear Phase 1000 Autocorrelator that I would like to add to the system, however the AM-2600 does not have a connection for an EQ. Can you tell me how I can connect these components? I thought about adding a pre-amp to connect all of the components to and then connecting the pre-out to the Aux in on the Amp but I do not know if this is proper or if it would damage my amp. Any suggestions or help would be apprecaited.

Answer
The best place to put the eq is between the preamp outs and the power amp ins.  So, check the back side of the Akai for a link that goes from preamp out to power amp in. I could not find a picture of the back side of this unit; some Akai's have preamp outs; some do not.

Also, you can use the tape monitor function for such purposes, but you are probably using that for you r-r deck (do people still use them?)

The ideal solution would be a separate preamp - but make sure it has the correct phono input; many of the newer ones do not.

One last alternative, if you are a techy, is to go inside the Akai and wire outs and ins at the first amplifier after the volume control. You must be crafty at soldering and knowing how to cut the foil, etc. when adding the coax wires to the back panel.  Not to say the least about drilling the holes and mounting the rca jacks.

Hope this helps.

PS: I found a photo of the back panel.  It does NOT have preamp outs and power amp ins.  But it DOES have two tape monitors.  You can use one of them for the r-r deck and one for the eq.  Go from rec out to in on the eq and out on the eq to play on the tape monitor2.
