Audio Systems: delco car radio main screen light, delco radio, pontiac grand prix

I purchased a used 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix with a factory delco radio.  The main screen that tells the time and what channel your on does not light up.  I purchaed a used radio, plugged it in an the light came on at first but before putting everything back together I tryed the radio again and the light went out.  I then opened up the radio and found the light in question.  When the radio was again powered it flickered on and off a couple of times and then went out.  It apears to be a problem with the wring rather then the light or radio.  Can you give me some help is solving the problem.

there is two wires for this the orange and orange with stripe  
but i also know that some pontiac vehicles have a little module behind the radio and that powers the lights
maybe that is your problem and not the radio
