Audio Systems: Wiring, factory stereo, loud pop

Question
When I hook up a toggle switch to turn my amp on or off, what wire do I run it to?

Answer
I wouldnt use a toggle switch becuase eventually you will forget to turn it off one day and you'll come back to a car with a dead battery.  If you have an aftermarket cd player it will have a remote wire that you connect to the amp's remote wire, this will turn the amp on when the cd player is on.  If you are using the factory stereo and adding an amp, In most vehilces the cig lighter only works when the key is in the on and run postions and doesnt work when the key is out.  see if this is true for your vehicle.  if so, splice the posative wire from the cig lighter to the remote wire on your amp.  this will turn the amp on whenever the car is on.  Sometimes this causes a loud "pop" in the speakers when you turn the stereo on and off or start the vehicle so be carefull.  turn the gains on your amp low for a while to test it and turn them up when you find out that theres no "pop" to avoid damaging your speakers.  If the cig lighter doesnt work let me know, there are other options.
Good luck!
