Question -
Hi, i just purchased 2 of the 2006 Infinity Reference subs, they are..

info from the box :

12"
Dual Voice Coil
1242w Peak power
300Rms
2 or 8 ohm Independence

I need the right amp to power these 2 subwoofers to the max.

So my questions are what type of an amp do i need, how many watts should the amp be, whats the RMS, how many ohms, how many channels should the amp have, what is "bridging the amp", which amps can i bridge.

Please explain it to me the RMS and the Ohm thing.. so i can know in future which amp is good with a certain subs...

Thanks a lot ..

Hey finally a design question like my blurb says I'm good at!!  THANK YOU!!!
Ok so you got a pair of Infinity refrence subs.  GOOD CHOICE!  let me guess you got them at sounddomain.com  they are having great sales on pairs of these right now.  I almost got a set myslef to play with on a rainy day.
ANYWAY!!!
More important than the amp is the box.  Lets start with that (even though you asked for the amp, but knowing the box and application will tell us what amp to get)
Fist off please clarify the model number,  the infinity refrence subs I see are 1252 not 1242 so please verify that.  also verify the ohms of EACH coil and that they are single or dual voice coil.
Looking at the specs on these subs they will work well in small sealed boxes or medium ported boxes.
Please let me know your prefrence between these.  prefrence is detremined by the type of music you preffer, the space available, the balance between how loud, how deep, and how clear the sub will sound, and your box building ablilties (if you are building it yourself)
So please let me know the following:

Music types you will be listening to:
 Rap,classical,rock,punk,country,techno,etc.
Space available:
Assuming its in the trunk but:
   what vehicle (year make model)
how much space in the trunk can be used up
would you preffer a smaller box with sacrefice to bass
or would you rather sacrefice space for better bass
Box building:
have you built boxes before?  (sealed or ported?)
This information will help us to design the best system for you out of these subs and will tell us what amp will do it.

-----------------------------------

I bought them Brand new, in box, sealed, from Future Shop, i checked they dont have them anymore, but On the box it says

12"
Dual Voice Coil
1242w Peak power
300Rms
2 or 8 ohm Independence

Maybe thats the CANADIAN version of Infinity Reference subs.. im from canada by the way..

I have lots of space in my VW GOLF since i dont have back seats, everything is taken out, and the subs are already in sealed box. So all i need is  understanding about the amp...

By The Way your blurb says POWER and WIRING.. so
yea...

Thanks..

P.S. I listen to Death Metal !!!

Answer
ok so if they're in a sealed box and you listen to death metal you've got the right box type so that's good.
You say you dont have back seats, does this mean the box is going where the seats use to be or is it going in the trunk?

As for an amp,
the subs have 2 voicecoils at 4 ohms each so I would wire each sub's coils in series to make them 8 ohms each, then wire the 2 subs in parallel to make a mono 4 ohm load.
stick to theb manufacturer's specs for 300watts each so you need an amp that puts out 600 watts RMS at 4 ohms mono or bridged. the following examples should work well.
(you can get all of these cheaper at ebay if you are ok with that)
If you want a cheap amp you can get this:

I've heard them before and they arent bad,  I did an install with them and would get them again on a budget.  Boss is known for having alot of junk but these are the best of their stuff and get good reviews. ITs rated for more power than your subs are rated for but it's probably a little overrated and as long as you dont turn it up into distortion it shouldnt blow.

I have also used these and am very happy with the results:

or

If you have to go name brand here's a great deal and a perfect match:

Since you are listening to death metal you can get away with your crossover being a little high.  shoot for 120hz or so, those double kick drums will punch hard.

Hope that helps!
