Audio Systems: wiring i dont get it, digital multimeter, wire colors

i am tryin to install a cd stereo for the first time n i simply matched up all old wire from a cassette deck to the new cd.. red to red black to black yellow to yellow and it wont even turn on its a sanyo deck so i dont know whats wrong n someone metioned i should ask you

The colors dont always match.  the best method is to use a meter if you have one.  if you dont have one they are a great thing to have and these days you can get a great digital multimeter for about $20  I got mine for $18 plus S&H
I can try to look up the wire colors for you but I would sugest getting a meter.  what's your year make and model of the vehicle and did you get a wiring harness for your vehicle or did you cut the old one in the car.
