Question -
i have a 1995 infinity j30, the bose stereo and radio plays normally but the sound keeps cutting off. oftentimes, the sounds goes off for the entire duration of my trip. but the strange thing is that the sound stays on longer when i'm on the freeway or the a/c is on. what do you suggest? is there a way to fix it or do i have to replace the entire system?

Answer -
does the unit in the dash stay on (lights, display, if cd is playing you see time counting, etc.)but the sound goes off? or does the unit turn off as well?

follow up,
yes, the unit in the dash stays on. though the sound stays on longer while i'm on the freeway or the a/c is on, the sound still eventually cuts off during this period too.

Answer
Well the part of the A/C or highway is what is confusing me.  Is it barely noticable or a significant difference?  Without the factor of the A/C or highway thing  I would say that your system has a separate amplifier somewhere that has a loose connection or something.  This is why the unit in the dash stays running and apears to work but the sound cuts in and out.
There is actually a post I found on this site (allexperts.com) that says basically that these systems are known for going bad and total replacement is recomended as a chain of fixing usually happens when trying to repair them.  Replacement with non factory equipment is recomended, skip trying to find the bose stuff and go with alpine or a brand you like.
