my aiwa 5cd changer will pick up a cd but not read it. it will even pick up a lens cleaner but not run it. it picks up a disc, makes a clicking sound, then lowers the cd as if it isnt there and searches for another. it cycles through all 5  trays and finally stops. everythig else on the system works. tuner, cassette a&b, vcr hook-up, etc. HELP!

Probably the laser diode gone bad.  Could also be the digital converter software......

Unfortunately, the cost of replacing the optical pickup - which contains the laser diode - is more than it is worth.  Repairing the converter section is even more.

The best solution is to purchase a new cd player and plug it into the aux inputs on your system.  Single disc cd players can be purchased for $9.99 and up; 5 disc players are more, obviously, but not terribly expensive.
