Audio Systems: using digital opticial audio cord to aiwa stereo, hurricane katrina, aiwa stereo

I have a playstation and can't get the digital audio cord to work.

It is the 1st time I've tried to use this feature.  It is the only way to get the sound to go from the playstation directly to the Aiwa Digital Audio Stereo CX-NHMA-86.  It just doesn't work.  But this is the 1st time I have tried to use this and the digital cord is brand new. Playstation itself said that I might need to put it in some different mode but I don't have the controller for the stereo anymore, I lost it in Hurricane Katrina.  So I only have options on the stereo itself and I can't get any to work.

Dear Randy,

The Aiwa is a fairly old unit, so references are difficult to find. As far as I can tell, tho', the digital optical jack on the Aiwa is an OUTPUT. Since it's not an input, you won't hear anything when you connect it to your PlayStation.
