Audio Systems: Toshiba 52HM84, toshiba 52hm84, dlp technology

Question
Hi!  We were watching our tv, which is about 9 months old, when it all of a sudden switched off, then back on, then off, over and over until it finally died.  Now when we try to turn it on, it does the same thing for a minute or two, turns on and off, over and over.  This is a DLP tv, and not sure if its the bulb that has gone.  We did not notice any problems with the brightness of the tv before this began.  Can't find anything that suggests this would happen when the bulb dies.

Thanks for your help!

Karen

Answer
Dear Karen,

DLP technology is so new, I don't think there's a consensus on what you see when the bulb dies. That said, most claims for DLP bulb life are in the 2-3 year range. Since the unit's only 9 months old, it's still under warranty. I know it's a hassle, but you should take it into the shop and have Toshiba fix it for free--and explain to you what happened, if it was the bulb, etc.

Kindest regards,

Kevin
