Audio Systems: Car Radio Antenna ?, rear window antenna, car radio antenna

Question
Wife's 1998 Buick LeSabre, FM OK, Tape deck and CD OK, but only one AM station comes in, the rest of the AM stations are static.  She says problem started after driving in the rain.

No possibility of leaks around rear window antenna.

Suspect possible bad antenna connection somewhere, any ideas?

Thanx

Answer
Mister Anderson,

It could be a poor antenna or antenna connection.
On a 1998, it is more likely that it is just time for a new radio (possibly both radio and antenna).
Many head units have an AM 'antenna trim' pot in them but it is not something users usualy deal with if the AM was working properly.
The idea when you install one is to set it to a weak AM station then trim the pot until reception is at its' peak.
I would not be able to guess where this pot may be located without seeing it in person (info included with most install/owners manuals).
The good news, is that you can get a nice CD/MP3/AM/FM headunit (that will even read burned CD-R and CD-RW) for under 100.00 now. MP3 means you can burn your own CD's and get up to 256 tunes per CD (which is about equal to a 10 disk CD changer!).
Circuit City would suffice for the headunit, install gear and the install.

Wish I had better news for you.

Sincerely,
Jerry Mael
