Audio Systems: can you repair a poser antenna?, lexus ls400, power antennas

Question
I have a 1997 Lexus LS400 car.  The power antenna has stopped going up and down when the radio is turned on and off. It just makes a grinding sound which eventually stops.  I can get to the antenna but the motor is contained in a housing.  Is is possible to repair the power anteena or must I buy another one? Thanks very much,

Answer
Most luxury cars' power antennas can be replaced by removing the chrome nut on the fender (carefully!) then turning the radio on. You may have to help it out with needlenose pliers, but it should spit out the old antenna. Replacements should be available from your Lexus Dealer, probably over $100.00USD. Some units have to have the rivets drilled out and split the case to do this. It's been awhile since I've done a Lexus, sorry I can't be more specific.
