Answer
Dear Johnny,

Basically, you have a choice. A graphic equalizer requires either a preamp in/out or a tape (record) in/out connection to function. If your receiver has only one tape in/out connection, that's where your graphic equalizer has to go. It's that or your tape deck.

I've never seen the following done, but it makes theoretical sense. I just don't know how it will work practically or sonically. Connect the OUT of the tape player to the IN on the equalizer and connect the OUT of the equalizer to the IN on the receiver. Similarly, connect the IN on the equalizer to the OUT on the tape deck, and the IN on the tape deck to the OUT on the receiver. What you've done is incorporate the equalizer and the tape player into the only tape loop you have. Try it. You can't hurt anything, and tell me how it works.

Of course, the turntable goes into the PHONO input (don't forget the ground wire).

Kindest regards,

Kevin
