Audio Systems: 2001 Chrysler Sebring Car Stereo Problem..., car stereo system, sebring car

Question
About four months ago, my wife's 2001 Sebring car stereo system (Infinity I think) began to have problems with the speakers.  All of a sudden, it went from all six speakers working to just the front dash speaker working.  We just took it in for some other auto work (and had fuses replaced for the compass/clock outage issue) and had the mechanics look at the radio problem while there.  They said they thought the radio needed to be replaced to correct the speaker outage issue.

I have never had a car stereo where this has happened.  One side going out or cutting in/out? Yes.  But to have the two door speakers, two back seat speakers, and the back dash speaker all go out at once seems strange.  Any ideas before I go out and buy a new radio based on their opinion?

Again, the radio & CD worked fine.  It is just the one speaker working that is the problem.

Answer
I will be much more frank than the dealer.

The best advice I can give anyone with a 5 year old Infinity system, is to replace the entire system. Especially so, if it has developed problems.
That system has a head unit and speakers, but also uses remote amplifiers to power the speakers. Anyone of these (or their wiring) could be the cause.
Your best bet is www.crutchfield.com for upgrading it. They have online reps ready to assist you in every way for your particular system/vehicle and personal needs.
Otherwise, find a local pro to decipher the problem and coorect it.
