Audio Systems: Two failing head units, mitsubishi eclipse gs, infinity system

Question
Hi Victor,

I've had two failing head units in the past 2 years. First, I installed an aftermarket stereo on my 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS (w/o Infinity system) and went away to college. When I returned on break and started my car, the face did not flip open (it was a Aiwa head unit). No problem, I managed because I just reinstalled my stock radio. Now recently, one day it just stopped working and would not turn on. I checked all the fuses and they are fine. I also thought it might be a low battery issue, but my car starts fine. I have no idea what the problem could be, or what direction to start looking in.

Answer
Hi!
Moving faces on radios are cool but they tend to fail very often since the face is connected to the body by means of a flexible board called FFC, the rubbing of the movent wears out the traces of the FFC and the radio Fails.
You can replace it if you have some time to spare, but the hardest part would be to find the new part, since you need the part number to order it.
