Audio Systems: No Sound from a stereo, antenna works, factory speakers

Question
Hello,

///'95 Altima///

1) My friend bought a new stereo. Her car had a Panasonic stereo without a faceplate, so I removed it. I wired the harness of the new stereo to the adapter, powered the stereo up, but I won't get any sound, no noise, no static, nothing. The stereo works, power antenna goes up and down, display is working, you can hear CD spinning, but no sound.

2) So I thought I did something wrong. I have the same car as she does, so I decided to put that new stereo into my car, it works, so the wiring of the harness is ok.

3) Next I decided to put my functioning stock stereo (which is the same for her car) into her car, to avoid using adapter harness - same thing (screen is lid, antenna works, but no sound at all).

4) Since the car never had a faceplate for the stereo when the car was bought, we had no idea that there is something wrong with the electrical wiring or something else in the car.

5) There are four factory speakers in the car present.

6) The original factory stereo harness is not modified (it looks same as in my car), the previous owner used altima adapter to install his stereo.

7) There is no sign (at least I found none) that the previous owner had an amplifier, and removed it when sold the car, so I could suspect that speakers are disconnected.

8) The other thing that I saw is that there are two wires coming form a diode (security) are just cut and lying around behind trim. Which I think has nothing to do with stereo.

9) The other difference between her car electrical system and mine that I found is that - in my car I have a "box" underneath "kick panel" on the drivers side, but it looks aftermarket it's not factory.

10) There is one fuse (description on cover of the fuse box for that fuse just says AUDIO) that I found is ok, since when I take it of the whole stereo dies (no lights, no nothing).

11) I didn’t find No other fuses for stereo.

12) And you could also see that somebody tapped into the ignition/security wires to install a new security system in her car, but these changes aren't suppose to affect any stereo wiring as I understand.

Thanks for reading, your response will be appreciated.

Answer

Thanks for the data.

If hers does NOT have an amp in it (factory or not), the simple answer is to run new speaker wires (and speakers, if they are bad).

If it DOES have an amp, you will have to negotiate its' interface and either bypassit,  or interface to it.
