Audio Systems: Built-In CD Changer Malfunction, play cd, disk 1

Question
I have a 2003 Subaru with a built-in 6 disk CD changer.  The CD portion of the radio stopped working when I tried to change from disk 6 to disk 1.  I have read a few answers to other questions and the advice is usually to replace the radio.  My problem is that I have leased my vehicle and can't change the radio.  I spoke with the dealer and their only solution was to remove the radio and send it to the manufacturer.
Do you have any suggestions?

Answer
If the dealer will get it fixed for free, no problem.
Otherwise look into replacing it (but keep the original so that when you return the lease, they can have the original back and you can take your new one with you).

I have done many many installs of this kind in leased vehicles. Even if metal is removed, the parts removed can be retained to be brazed back in later, ect. Generally, they choose a single play CD/MP3/CD-R deck which can play up to 256 tunes from a single cd (in MP3 format).

In your case, trust me, they do not pull decks out to see if it has been removed/replaced and a competetent installer will not need to cut a single factory wire, so even if they did, they would not see any problems.

The bottom line is that you can usually do what you want if there is no evidence of it. They just want that vehicle to be in like new condition upon its return and you simply want a radio.
