Chrysler Repair: No oil in engine and no indicator light, question pool, warning light

Question
My car, a 2006 Sebring is maintained on a regular basis for oil and filter changes using synthetic oil every 5000 miles.  Recently we discovered there was no oil in the car but we never had the oil light or an engine light go on.  We tested the lights to see if they were working by putting the ignition to the on potion and they all light. Why would these light not remain on to indicate the problem?

Answer
Hi Kit,
What do you mean by 'no oil'?
The oil warning light, if there is only one, is an oil pressure too low warning light. It would come into play if the amount of oil were so low as to 'starve' the oil pump intake and thus cause insufficient oil pressure to safely operate the engine. While you may have found the level to be below the end of the dipstick it doesn't mean that any damage had been done. Fortunately you found the problem before it got to that warning light coming 'on' problem. If everything else is working ok with the engine, then you are fortunate. You might want to check the ground under the vehicle where you park it to see for signs of an oil leak. Then once the oil level is replenished keep track of how many miles you go before you have to add a quart to bring it back to full. Some cars also have a oil level warning light but yours may not have thate feature.

your giving me a 'yes'. Thanks
