Audio Systems: dvr dvd/vcr combo tv receiver hookup, sony kdf e42a10, jvc rx

Question
Hello! I just had the moto dct6412 dvr installed by comcast. I also have Sony kdf-e42a10 tv, Panasonic pv-d4744s dvd/vcr combo, and jvc rx 601ov receiver. The dvr has no cable out, and the installer just left vcr cable hanging. I would like to know how to hook up all together with the best possible audio video progressive scan etc features, and audio thru receiver for all.
Ripping hair out!
Thanks for your time,
Mary

Answer
Dear Mary,

I can't find a copy of the JVC receiver's manual on line or even a picture of the rear panel. JVC's web site is no help. However, I found on pp. 28-29 of the Motorola's installation manual (http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/dct6412/downloads/DCT6412_User_...) a fairly plain diagram for connecting the DVD recorder and VCR through a receiver to a TV.

Progressive scan is a kind of picture resolution technology. It is not a kind of connection. Possibly, you're thinking about component video connections. If your receiver has them, then use them in place of the composite connection suggested on the Motorola diagram.

BTW, the cable installation guys have an obligation to reconnect everything in your system after they've installed the DVD recorder. I suggest you call Comcast and complain. Tell them they can have the DVD recorder back if they don't fix the connections to your satsifaction. I guarantee they'll be out.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
