Audio Systems: Subwoofer, crossover point, channel speakers

Question
I have a Kenwood subwoofer that came with the Kenwood KSW-6200 speaker package and I need to connect it to my Kenwood KRF-X9080D receiver. How can I do this?

Answer
Dear Ron,

Best I can tell, these models are sold only in Germany, and my German is, well, nonexistent--so I've had no luck getting info from Kenwood's .de website. That said, there are only a couple of ways to connect a subwoofer.

If your sub is powered, which it should be since it's part of a speaker package, then you connect either the "subwoofer out" or "preamp out" from the A/V receiver to the "preamp in" on the rear panel of the subwoofer. Once you've calibrated the speakers (presuming Kenwood supplies a utility to do this), you set the crossover point (the manual will give you options) and volume level, and it's ready to go.

If your sub is passive (not powered), you route the front channel speaker outputs from the receiver to the "speaker in" connections on the sub, then you route the "speaker out" connections on the sub to the front channel speakers. Again, all you'll have to do after that is set the crossover point and volume level.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
