Audio Systems: Sony CDX-CA710X, CD player works, radio does not work, sony cdx, sony model

Question
Hi Cody,

My car stereo is a Sony model CDX-CA710X. It was installed by the previous owner. The car is a '91 Geo Storm. The CD player works fine. The volume control, balance and skipping to the next track all work.

But the radio does not work at all. I can select AM or FM, I can tune to a station, and when I turn the volume control up, the volume bars increase just as if the radio were working properly, but there is no sound at all, not even static.

If the antenna were not plugged in, would that cause this problem? Or is it possible that a wire is grounded?

Thank you for your expert advice, Cody. Have a splendid day, Anthony

Answer
Anthony,

even if your antenna was disconnected you should get static through the speakers because in turn the unit "doesnt" know that the antenna isnt hooked up... what sounds like the problem is just the tuner inside the unit is dead, not a real easy, cheap or quick cure for this problem aside from buying a new unit... but just to make sure that this specific model should give static even minus an antenna i would call or email sony directly, you should be able to locate their number either by website or owners manual if you have it... i'm a firm believer in SONY and currently using 2 CD head units and one is a CDX-CA model and with no antenna connected i still get static , thats why i suggest the tuner is bad... hope this help you out

thanks
