Audio Systems: Radio intermittent power, pontiac firebird, haynes repair manual

Question
1997 Pontiac Firebird with Delco AM/FM CD Player.
About a month ago radio starting going off and coming back on. While off, power windows would not work. I had the radio replaced this weekend with another, same model, from same year firebird.
Still has the same problem. What's going on ? (Radio fuse also has Body Control Module on it, but the power windows do not show as part of the BCM schematics.) Any ideas?
Thank you,

Answer
Dan,

it sounds like a problem in your main harness since your PW's are involved with this problem... even though they arent on the same circuits when you have the same problem affecting 2 differnt sources that arent connected its usually a problem in the main harness that feeds both sources... couple of things to ask yourself is "has the car been in a wreck, has any major modifications been done to the harness, has the car been converted from manual windows to PW's" all things that affect the wiring can be to blame most commonly a wreck will pinch wires and cause them to rub off the insulation and short each other... i would suggest getting a repair manual and tracing down both circuits COMPLETELY give a visual inspection and check with ohm meter ... if worse comes to worst you might end up taking it not just to an audio repair shop but a mechanics shop for a good checkup of the wiring system.... hope this helps you out ... i have a haynes repair manual for that year model if you need any specific info such things let me know

thanks
