Audio Systems: 2005 Silverado aftermarket radio install, chevy silverado, series pickups

Question
I recently purchased a 2005 Chevy Silverado, it has your basic AM/FM radio. I'm looking to replace it with a CD/AM/FM radio, so I go to pickup the wiring harness and face plate install kit and find out BESTBUY charges $120 for the wiring harness. Wanted to know if there was anyway around it and what would be affected by just hard wiring it up without the new wiring harness. I've been told the door chimes and other things run through the radio so I'm trying to find what all runs through the radio. I can live without the door chimes but if it affect other things like the air bags then I would probably buy the wiring harness or find a stock CD player to replace it with. Thanks for any info. Answer
Tony,

This applys to the newer model S series pickups aswell the only thing the harness runs to my knowledge is the door chimes, which is something most people can be very happy living without when it cost 100 dollars more for the harness... give circuit city or best buy, radio shack ect.. a few calls check around ask the guys if they have a harness that will work with your truck but doesnt cost so much , they should direct you to a harness for a slightly older model silverado which will mate up to everything but cost around 20 dollars. and will eliminate your chimes...that should take care of you.. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
