Audio Systems: Ford Mach Radio CD Player, ford mach, state switches

Question
Yesterday, when I started my 1998 Ford Explorer, the Mach radio/cd/tape player flashed a message "Eject error" for about 2 seconds then it disappeared. I only listened to the radio, so I noticed nothing out of the ordinary.  Today, when I tried to play a CD, it wouldn't let me insert the cd and everytime I turn on the car, the same message appears.  There is no CD stuck in the player.  How can I repair this?  Evidently, this is a fairly common problem, but it's new to me!  I would appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Ron

Answer
there's nothing you can do unless you're very familiar with the internal mechanisim, which is where your problem lies. there are several 'mechanisim state' switches that tell the electronics whether or not the tray is fully in 'loaded' position, eject or what not. as you said, it's a common problem, but attempting anything without having adequate knowledge can and most times be catastrophic to the unit. either take it to your local auto sound servicer or simply just replace it. service can run in excess of $100 very easily.......food for thought......
