Audio Systems: car stereo, alpine cda, internal circuitry

Question
the model is an alpine cda 7984.  I contacted the guy i bought it from said that it was a faulty remote turn on wire. I have it hook up, would it be internal in the deck or does the one on the harness need to be replaced.

Hi, my aftermarket cd player in my car works fine. But i installed an amp and subwoofer. the sub doesnt produce any sound. I've try different amps and subs that work in my friend's car. I'm assuming my preamp is not working on my deck. how would i fix it.
Answer -
some units you have to activate the sub circuits via different sequences of function keys, i suggest searching through owner's manual to give you the sequence. if you don't have the manual, try using google or some other search engine to find your model. if you still can't find a manual, do a search for the manufacturer, give their toll free number a call and ask for tech support. that's all i can offer at this time, since no make or model was given.

Answer
i beleive he means the remote on signal isn't coming from the unit. could be a harness problem, would be the cheaper thing to try, otherwise it's in the internal circuitry, if you're electronics knowledged, you might be able to track down the component responsible. might be just an internal fused type device designed to blow if hooked up wrong to save unit. i know on my alpine, i have to scroll through settings to activate sub out.
