Audio Systems: automatic volume control, automatic volume control, bose system

Question
Spiking sound to inaudible dialogue killing us and are convinced there is no attachment to fix that average Joe can install. Maybe you do?
Question is should I run the big TV  into the Fisher amp and then into the Bose system permanently bringing weakest sounds up to comfortable level and use TV remote to bring down spikes.Do all day.Kill all at night.Will ruin amp? Volumes low in small room.Batter idea?
P.S. I used to own bit TV station and heard constant bitching about loudness spikes. Hired kids to site at xmtr site with hand on AUDIO OUT master and quickly correct. Quit quickly when commercial buyers complained.
