Audio Systems: no sound from speakers, rca stereo, discount house

Question
I have a RCA stereo Model number RS2620 that is only about a year or two old. The stereo has worked fine up until I turned it on today and now I have no sound. I have shut down the system, pulled out the plug, and nothing. I have checked all connections, everything is attached. NO cracks in any wires, Speaker wire is good and clean. Unattached and then Reattached speaker wires with new cut and still nothing. Although I thought I heard a low buzzing noise when I have the volumn turned up to the max and I put my ear right on the speaker. Do you have any idea about what the problem is. Would I have to take it to be repaired and is it even worth it to take it in.

Answer
Dear Lorri,

Sorry, but the "it suddenly stopped working" syndrome seems to be endemic to this model. See a similar complaint at:

One "fix" I'd recommend is making sure that all the speaker connections are solid. The RCA uses spring clips to attach the speakers, and they're prone to sticking in the "open" position.

Because it is so inexpensive ($89.99 retail; a lot less at a discount house), if it's not still under warranty, I'd junk it and get something more substantial: Onkyo, Aiwa, JVC all make better built mini-systems. You'll spend at least $90 to get it fixed.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,
