Audio Systems: Increased Tape Speed?, jam ups, pinch rollers

Question
A couple of weeks ago, my tape started playing very fast.  When I pushed the STOP button and then the EJECT,
it would not eject. After prying the tape out (I noticed  tape had wrapped around one of the spindles maybe causing the jam) and damaging the unit, I replaced it with a new factory
unit, and "low and behold" the same thing happen yesterday,  hours after the installation.
Now, I'll mention 2 things Ñ one, I just recently put a new battery in my car (1994 Corvette). And two Ñ I think
the weather was very hot both days (car in direct sun).
Both units are the factory Delco/Bose Radios.
WHAT WOULD BE CAUSING THE TAPES TO SPEED UP AND WRAP
AROUND A SPINDLE CAUSING JAM-UPS? NEW BATTERY (increased voltage)„inclimate, hot sunlight, or neither?
Please explain. Thankyou.

Answer
Edward,
I have seen this problem with older cassette tapes a few times before and it is in most cases caused by gummy sticky tapes. If you or someone that rides in your vehicle smokes or the tapes are stored near a room where people smoke the smoke build up on the tapes is making then sticky/gummy. The smoke can also build up on the rubber pinch rollers in the player and they will become sticky and grab onto and hold the tape which will then cause the tape to wrap around the capstan posts or rubber pinch roller/s. Increased battery voltage wouldn't have any effect on the tape speed since the tape motor is a regulated speed controlled motor.
