Audio Systems: factory am fm cassette removal, tilt wheel, salvage yard

Question
I actually have several questions I hope you can help me with.I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 reg.cab(2dr.)long bed with tilt wheel and A/C.I was wanting to remove the factory AM,FM,Cassette player and replace it with a factory AM,FM,CD player. How do I remove the one with cassette player from the dash and which year model players with CD will work using the factory connectors? I have found several CD players on EBay and at the local salvage yard that supposedly will work but don't want to purchase one till I can get mine out and hope I can just unplug the cassette and plug the CD right in without plug or wiring problems. Thanks so much for any help you can offer me on this matter.  Roger

Answer
Roger,
Most stereos from 1999 to 2003 should work as long as the connector/s are the same and providing that your stereo is or isn't a premium stereo system that uses an external power amp. Your best bet for finding the correct stereo on Ebay or at your local salvage yard is to remove your existing stereo to see the model number on the sticker. You may also want to take the stereo to the salvage yard to compare the connections on each stereo to be sure that all are the same. To remove the stereo you will need to take off the trim around the stereo to gain access to the holding screws and/or release clips.
